Research
My research focuses on understanding how speech perception is affected in less than optimal conditions, because of hearing impairment, ageing, communicating in a non-native language, or external noise. Lately, I have also delved into the strange world of Binaural Beats.
Teaching
I have been teaching at the University of Groningen, in the Netherlands, since 2009. I teach mainly Psychology courses, with an emphasis on Auditory Perception, Research Methodology and Ethics, Science Communication, and Education.
Degrees of Freedom
I have hosted a podcast on higher education since 2021, most recently, in collaboration with mathematician Marcello Seri. In it, we speak with university students and teachers about all manners of didactic methods, values, and philosophies. Food Writing
The Epicurean was a culinary column I wrote for the newspaper of the University of Groningen. Three years and more than 70 recipes and stories on one page.
After that ended, I published a short column, called Dish, in the Dutch magazine Villa d’Arte, in collaboration with my friend Sander Martens.
